Devon Over 60s 2nd XI Team 2016
A disappointing end to a season full of promise, as we again arrested the 'Western Division Title' for the third year running, due certainly to a group of players whom gave commitment throughout, with the willingness to play or support the team whenever called upon to do so.
Sadly the season ended in controversy with Surrey, and then the unwillingness of Sussex to travel halfway, put the blinkers down on what was a successful season yet again, and of course the weather was another important factor.
My thanks to Ian Western, Nick Forbes, Roger Tolchard, Pete Gascoigne & Di Wadsworth for all your contributions.
Congratulations to leading run scorers Richard Coe & Gerry Keen, and leading wicket takers Graham Darke, Reehan Caryl, Paul Berman, Pete Rose & wicket-keeper Nigel Mountford, who had a great season behind the stumps & also with the bat.
Newcomers Andy Rose, Mike Giles, Alastair Ashworth & Eddie Clarke all settled into their first season well, thanks also to Barry Flicker, Dave Gambie & Dave Amery for playing your part.
To my Vice-Captain Richard Coe 'thanks a million' for without your continued help, none of this would have been achieved.
As you probably know by now that I am standing down, so that hopefully I may play 1st XI cricket next year, it's been a pleasure sharing this success with you all.

It's not too long before the Dinner in November, and between the playing members of the 2014/5 successful sides, you now have to nominate a successor who will Captain the side for the 2016 season, nominations please to the Secretary Stuart Lott.
Devon O'60's 2nd XI members/players...
I have in stock, various sizes of the 'New Yellow Polo Shirts' only 21 made, and I am holding them in stock, please see 'KIT' for sizes.
If you require one please Email me immediately, and I will keep one back for you until the Dinner in November, but please send Stuart £11 directly...they are very smart indeed!
Thank you for your input, and today I informed Sussex that we won't be travelling to Horsham C.C.to take part in the Semi-Finals of the Plate Competition this Wednesday Sept' 9th, due to the non-availability of some (3), and the unwillingness of Sussex to meet half-way to play this match.
My thanks to you all for putting up with me for this year, as I shall be standing down as Captain...I have really enjoyed leading the team, and will have some lovely memories of the fact that we have achieved THREE straight Championship successess, well done everyone!...see you all at the Dinner in November, book with Stuart now to avoid disappointment (Rosey)
Team from:Shephard, A.Rose, Keen, Coe, Matthews, P.Rose, Mountford, Reehan, Giles, Berman, Amery, Ashworth, Darke.
Umpire: Ian Western.
Scorer: Pete Gascoigne.
Loosing the toss never helps this time of year, and Devon were inserted. Sheps (41) & Rose JNR got off to a flyer, 40 off 10overs, then the Surrey spinners quelled Devon's ambitions, then an unfortunate run-out, but runs from Rose SNR (45) & Coe (30) posted a reasonable target of 186.
Sadly, our bowling didn't turn up for this match, save the hard working Mike Giles, (126.96.36.199) Reehan picked up three, the pitch eased to make batting batter, and Surrey got over the line with two overs to spare...MOM...Mike Giles

OVER 60s 2nd XI CAPTAIN - NEIL MATTHEWS
Having played well over 75 matches for Devon County Seniors CC through 50’s and 60’s teams, it is a great honour for me to be asked to captain this side for the 2020 season. Dave will be a hard act to follow, but the captaincy of the last 3 games last year has given me an insight into the challenges ahead, as well as the thrill of winning a National competition.
I have played cricket since school and represented cricket clubs in Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Cheshire and Devon in my nomadic work lifestyle. Moving to Devon in 1986 and playing my cricket at Torquay CC eventually led to my captaining the Second XI to the “A” Division title and runners up in the Premier Division, before a move to Cheshire. My last cricketing move coincided with my first Seniors tour to South Africa and came in 2005 when I was persuaded to move to South Devon CC where I still play my cricket now.
I look forward to building on the success of the previous seasons and to introducing new players to the Seniors set up. We all have our aches and pains to deal with, but nothing can replace the cut and thrust of competition and the camaraderie of the dressing room.
I hope you all have a successful season.
